Coupling: Series Three DVD interview

On the UK S3 and US S1 dvds there are some interviews with the cast and creators of Coupling. Ben's comments are listed below.

The character

"She seems to be, variously, the coolest one and, I was going to say the most intelligent, but she's got this business up and running and yet she's clearly the least confident in herself. I think Susan and Jane are more, seem to be, much more confident about themselves and Sally is riven with insecurity. Partly because her measure of life is based on looks and I would say she's building her house on sand in that regard. She really needs to find more worthwhile touchstones."

Embarrassing scenes?

"As a human being, I was dead nervous of dropping my towel in front of Jack Davenport. I felt it was kind of unkind and could damage him mentally."

The personal ad

"Atrractive girl seeks funloving, handsome, cashed-up playmate for fun and romance!"

My favourite episode

"I was working with a 92-year-old actress, Kathryn, and got to be really horrible to her and she was even more horrid back and that was deeply satisfying. It was a joy to work with a nonagenarian and find her feisty and really up for a fight."

Life before Coupling

"Jonathan Creek, I was in a christmas special of that. And there was Is it legal? which was a sad, strange sitcom written by Simon Nye of Men Behaving Badly ilk, that was wonderful. And that would be a real niche audience because that was really strange, warped humour and only strange, warped people would really watch that, which I really approve of. And the other thing is I mainly do theatre, because that's what English actors always say and theatre is my natural home. A lot of people might be going, go home to it then."
