:: ROBERT ::

Invited round to David and Karen's to make up the numbers at a dinner party, Jenny is suprised to meet a rich, attractive, young businessman who clearly finds her very attractive. Robert's a pretty tasty proposition himself, not least because he soon develops some very good habits (sending Jenny huge amounts of flowers, taking her out for expensive meals, weekends in New York.) A flirtation turns into an affair and Robert becomes a fixture. The rest of the gang aren't best pleased; their loyalty will always be to Pete, and Robert's made to feel like a leper. Despite his best efforts to be supportive to Jenny, and to accommodate her son, Robert finds the relationship difficult. Jenny is demanding and dogmatic and eventually he starts to look elsewhere. After a few acrimonious scenes, Jenny and Robert part for good, and he takes his millions elsewhere.

:: EPISODE DESCRIPTIONS::

Episode One

Karen and David are having a dinner party to entertain a couple of clients of David's: Felix Bishop, a middle-aged venture capitalist and Robert Brown, an attractive young internet millionaire. Karen has invited Jenny along to make up the numbers. Jenny assesses each guest and surmises that Robert, while reasonably attractive, as a colleague of David's is also 'probably dickless'! When she discovers that he's Felix's boss and is a millionaire (albeit on paper only), she rapidly revises her opinion. After dinner she asks Robert what it's like to be a millionaire and whether he's single/gay/seeing anyone. At the end of the evening Robert asks Jenny if he can see her again, but they're interrupted by Felix before she can reply. The following day Robert rings Jenny at work to ask her out for lunch.

Episode Two

Robert is having lunch with David and Felix and is very bored. David is waxing lyrical about his new mobile until Robert tells him 'it's a brick with numbers on it' and that his has internet access, fax, etc. He leaves to go and phone Jenny. He asks if he can see her again that night but she cuts him off. Adam is in the pub with Jenny - Pete has sent him to check up on her. Jenny says that her and Robert are 'just a bit of fun' and it's nice to be desired again. She doesn't think Robert's that bothered anyway - but then they arrive home to find her front door and gateway covered in flowers! Jenny isn't impressed and when Robert tries to call she doesn't answer. Eventually, he turns up on her doorstep in the pouring rain, this time armed only with a bunch of daffodils, to apologise. He lists all his good points and apologises for being over enthusiastic. He says that whether she sees him again or not, he thinks she's absolutely spectacular. As he's walking away, his phone rings. Jenny tells him she'll have dinner with him that night but there's 3 conditions - she chooses the restaurant, she pays the bill and no more flowers!

She picks an Indian restaurant for their dinner - it has an all you can eat buffet for a fiver and Jenny makes the most of it! She asks Robert what is is that he does:

Robert: "We develop communication systems that utilise internet technology but via the telephone interface as opposed to the outdated QWERTY keyboard."
Jenny: "No, sorry, different language! Don't understand. Haven't come to terms with Ceefax yet!"

Jenny invites him back for coffee and he ends up staying the night (Robert says they could just go to bed and cuddle but Jenny would prefer to have sex if he doesn't mind!) The next day at lunch, Jenny is thinking about trying to find another new job (she's been fired from the 3 temp agency ones she's tried) and wonders about asking around for bar/waitressing work that weekend. Robert thinks that a shame as he was hoping she'd be free....to go to New York for the weekend instead.

Episode Three

Robert has spent the night at Jenny's, they're awakened by a phone call from Pete - he won't bring young Adam back to the house until Robert's gone! David is throwing a fancy dress party to celebrate his 40th birthday. Robert and Jenny are going as John Travolta and Princess Leia. Robert tries to have a conversation with both Adam and Pete but both of them treat him like a leper.

Episode Four

Robert is still trying to get Jenny to let him stay over more often - she won't let him stay when Adam is in the house. He finally makes his case successfully after a washing up fight! Jenny makes sure he realises just what his responsibilities are though, when she makes him read Adam a bed time story instead of watching some business programme on the telly. Pete comes to the house to collect Adam and is less than impressed to find Robert answering the door.

Episode Five

Adam and Rachel have invited everyone out for a meal at which they announce their engagement. Robert is still very much on the outside of the group, Adam is always trying to wind him up and only Karen is ever nice to him! Jenny is still trying to think of a new career, Robert suggests an ironing service - he wants her to have a job but he also wants her to be around so he can see her when he wants - but she's not interested in that. She helps organise a photography exhibition for an old flame of Karen's instead.

Episode Seven

Jenny's friends are really getting to Robert and Jenny's beginning to wonder if they have much of a future. David sees Robert out with another woman, but as he's also doing the same, Robert persuades him not to tell Jenny yet. Jenny decides to dump Robert before he can admit he's already seeing someone else.

Episode Eight

Robert calls round to collect some of the things he left behind at Jenny's. During another shouting match he lets slips that David is having an affair.
